Lazio have reportedly set their sights on Atalanta benchwarmer Marco Brescianini, who becomes the latest name to land on Angelo Fabiani’s January shortlist.

Lazio Determined to Sign a New Midfielder in January

The Biancocelesti are impatiently awaiting the decision to lift the transfer ban (even if partially). While the confirmation should arrive in the coming days, the club is already laying plans for the winter transfer session, and the priority seems to be a box-to-box midfielder with a keen eye for goal.

Lazio’s Shortlist

In recent weeks, Lazio have been linked with a host of potential profiles. However, Bologna’s Giovanni Fabbian could be unattainable in the middle of the season, while Maurizio Sarri considers Torino’s Ivan Ilic more suited to a deeper role. The manager might be interested in a reunion with AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but Lazio could struggle to afford his salary.

Lazio Revive Interest in Lazar Samardzic

According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Italian capital side is now keeping tabs on two Atalanta midfielders who are struggling for game time under Raffaele Palladino. The first is Lazar Samardzic, who has been one of the most coveted players in Serie A since his breakthrough at Udinese.

However, the Serbian’s asking price is €25 million, a figure that could repel the cash-strapped Aquile, who could instead turn to his teammate, Brescianini.

Why Marco Brescianini Could Be Feasible for Lazio

Like Samardzic, the 25-year-old Italian joined Atalanta in the summer of 2024 for €10 million following a solid campaign at Frosinone. However, the Milan youth product now finds himself at the very bottom of the pecking order. He has only made 10 substitute appearances across all competitions, and has yet to start a match this season.

Where Would Brescianini Fit at Lazio?

The left-footed midfielder is eager for more playing time, which could push him towards Lazio, where he would compete with Toma Basic for a starting role. The source adds that Brescianini’s agent is Beppe Riso, who also represents Danilo Cataldi and Nicolo Rovella, which could facilitate the negotiations.
