Le Havre’s 12 years of Coupe de France shocks and setbacks

As Le Havre prepare for a 32nd-final trip to Amiens on Sunday, their Coupe de France story is laced with stumbles. According to L'Équipe, across the last 12 editions they have been knocked out nine times by lower-tier opponents and have not reached the quarter-finals since 1960. They were winners in 1959.

The shocks include Blénod in 1996, 1-1 after extra time then 4-3 on penalties. Aside from exits to Guingamp in 2017, Paris FC in 2020 and Strasbourg in 2024, most falls have come against underdogs.

November 2013 set the tone, a 1-0 defeat at sixth-tier Saint-Amand-les-Eaux in the seventh round, Le Havre finishing with nine men and conceding in stoppage time.

December 2014 brought a 2-0 home loss to Boulogne-sur-Mer in the eighth round. In November 2015 they fell 2-0 at Saint-Omer, days after the Paris attacks, and barely laid a glove.

In November 2017, they were beaten 3-2 at fifth-tier neighbours Évreux, undone by a late penalty after having led then hauled themselves level.

January 2019 brought a 3-0 collapse at Vitré in the last 32. In November that year a rotated side lost 3-1 at home to Dunkerque, Mohamed Bayo scoring twice.

November 2021 saw a goalless draw away to Chauvigny, then a 4-3 shootout defeat in the eighth round. In October 2022 at Alençon it finished 3-3 before Le Havre lost 5-3 on penalties. December 2024 brought a 1-0 loss at Saint-Brieuc, Stan Janno heading the winner on 80 minutes.
