Leagues Cup 2026 is here! What’s new for Chivas?

Chivas is ready to take on another international challenge. Following its start to the Apertura 2026, the Rebaño Sagrado will look to make a statement in the 2026 Leagues Cup with performances that reflect the team’s growth while continuing to strengthen the playing style Gabriel Milito has implemented since his arrival.

The tournament, which features all 18 Liga MX clubs and the top 18 teams from MLS, will take place from August 4 to September 6. In addition to crowning the best club in North America, the competition will award three spots in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. As an added incentive, the tournament champion will begin that competition directly in the Round of 16.

How does the Leagues Cup format work?

The tournament is designed to strengthen the rivalry between Liga MX and MLS clubs, guaranteeing interleague matchups through the Quarterfinals. This ensures MLS vs. Liga MX clashes in every round leading up to the Semifinals.
A league-based points system will be used. While clubs compete against teams from the opposite league on the field, MLS and Liga MX teams will each have their own Leagues Cup standings. The top four clubs from each league table will advance to the Knockout Rounds.
There are no draws. If a Phase One match ends level after regulation, each team earns one point. A penalty shootout will then determine the winner, who receives an additional point.
In the Knockout Rounds, any match tied after regulation will also be decided by a penalty shootout.

Remember that every 2026 Leagues Cup match will be available in Mexico and the United States on Apple TV. In Mexico, Imagen Televisión will also broadcast a selection of matches.

Backed by the República Rojiblanca in every stop across the United States, Guadalajara will aim to secure a place among the tournament’s top teams and compete for the title in pursuit of its first trophy of the season.
