Leeds United signed off at Elland Road with a 1-0 win over Brighton, sealed by a stoppage-time winner on the final home date of their Premier League season.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, it was a smash-and-grab. Karl Darlow earned his clean sheet, Jaka Bijol was resolute, and Daniel Farke’s side stifled Brighton as chants of the manager’s name rolled around the ground.
Sam Byram came on late and, after a slightly errant pass down the line, helped start the move for the winner on what is almost certainly his final Elland Road outing. Anton Stach was stretchered off after an innocuous aerial bump and awkward landing.
Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler could not find a breakthrough despite changes, then appeared to lose his cool at full-time. Georginio Rutter received a warm welcome but could not provide the spark and absorbed a heavy challenge.
Off-camera, James Milner stretched with a theraband outside the away dressing room, and Lucas Perri applauded sports science lead Tom Robinson after a deft volleyed return. Paraag Marathe’s guests narrowly avoided being struck when Ao Tanaka miscontrolled near the touchline.
Rutter hugged coach Christopher John and was cheered by the West Stand, then reunited with Willy Gnonto during his corner warm-up, a chat long enough for Joel Piroe to tell him to get moving. After full-time, Hürzeler and a Leeds staff member were kept apart, Darlow’s child waved to the crowd, and Alex Cairns led a South Stand wave at Ethan Ampadu’s urging.
