Leeds United look set to miss out on re-signing Karl Darlow, with the free agent goalkeeper understood to be closing in on a move to Manchester United.

According to The Athletic, talks over a deal are at an advanced stage as United move to add experienced cover for first-choice Senne Lammens.

Lammens is expected to keep the No.1 role after impressing following an £18m switch from Royal Antwerp last season. Darlow would arrive as back-up, with Altay Bayindir anticipated to depart this summer.

Darlow finished last season as Leeds’ starter, replacing £16m summer signing Lucas Perri in January after costly errors against Manchester United and Newcastle. He then saw out the campaign.

The 35-year-old made 22 Premier League starts, including April’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford, and kept five of Leeds’ eight top-flight clean sheets.

Leeds had been in talks over an extension and are believed to have offered terms, while Manchester United and Everton also tabled proposals. With Darlow now favouring a fresh challenge, Leeds appear to have missed out.

Daniel Farke is currently left with one senior goalkeeper, Perri, after Illan Meslier’s exit to Arsenal. Elland Road chiefs will need to recruit at least one goalkeeper this summer.
