The Irish Independent reports that Leeds United are to face Manchester United in a pre-season friendly at Croke Park on Wednesday, 12 August, marking a second successive summer in Dublin.
Daniel Farke’s side drew 1-1 with AC Milan at the Aviva Stadium last year, in front of tens of thousands of Leeds supporters. Fans travelled from across Ireland, with many also flying in from the UK and Europe.
Croke Park, the home of Gaelic football, has not staged a football match since 2009. Both clubs have sizeable Irish followings and the 82,300-capacity arena is set to look less one-sided than the Aviva did last year.
A Dublin date would follow Leeds’ pre-season tour of the USA in late July and early August. Farke’s squad will be based on the East Coast, with fixtures planned against Wrexham, Sunderland and Liverpool, all of which could be Premier League teams, the former chasing a Championship play-off place.
Leeds play Wrexham at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Saturday, 25 July, then face Sunderland at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey on Thursday, 30 July. They finish in Chicago against Liverpool on Sunday, 2 August.
Tickets for all three US matches are on sale. Leeds have yet to announce the Dublin friendly and are likely to release ticket information alongside any confirmation.
