Fabio Capello does not view Inter Milan as the favorites to win the Scudetto this season despite their position in the standings.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, Capello named AC Milan as the most viable title candidates.

Inter Milan finished 2025 at the top of the Serie A table.

However, Cristian Chivu cannot take anything for granted as he bids to lead the Nerazzurri to the Scudetto in his first season at the helm.

Indeed, second-placed AC Milan trail Inter by a single point, with defending champions Napoli sitting third.

Furthermore, only four points separate the top five teams, with Roma and Juventus also vying for the crown.

Despite remaining the only Serie A team to have scored 30+ goals this season, Inter have shown some frailties.

Curiously, they haven’t drawn a single league match under Chivu, winning 12 of their 16 outings so far.

Yet, Capello backs the other San Siro club to win the title race.

“In the first part of the season, Milan has experienced some lapses in focus against the smaller teams,” Capello said.

“However, I expect Max, taking advantage of a “lighter” schedule compared to his rivals, to fix things.

Asked about Inter’s chances of hoisting the title, Capello replied: “In Serie A, their few goals conceded have always had a greater impact than the many they’ve scored.

“Inter have more quality than anyone in midfield and a forward line of four strikers that’s working brilliantly.

“If you look at the goal difference, Cristian Chivu has no problems: 35 goals scored and just 14 conceded.

“Where could trouble arise? In distribution, because while it’s true that his Inter often rakes in clear and wide victories, it’s equally true that sometimes they lose focus and throw it away.

“In this sense, there was a detail in the win in Bergamo against Atalanta that I liked.

“Chivu, in the final minutes, took off Lautaro to bring on a midfielder like Diouf. A choice perhaps born from some past carelessness.

“Even the Nerazzurri coach must have realized that, to take points at certain moments, you need to be pragmatic.”
