All the latest news in Leicester City's manager situation amid speculation over Ruud van Nistelrooy's future
Leicester City have been officially relegated from the Premier League after just one season back in the division.
The Foxes lost 1-0 to Liverpool last weekend, confirming their position inside the bottom three.
This has led to speculation over the future of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has overseen their decline to 19th in the Premier League table.
The Dutchman took charge in November, but has struggled for results, with the team winning just three times from his 22 games as manager so far.
Here we take a look at the latest news surrounding the Leicester boss ahead of their return to the Championship…
Van Nistelrooy’s time at the King Power Stadium is likely coming to an end as we approach the conclusion of the Premier League campaign.
According to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, talks are expected between the Dutchman and Leicester this week to discuss his future.
It is expected that the 48-year-old will depart at the end of the season, but he is not willing to walk away without receiving compensation.
Due to the club’s financial position, it’s likelier that any decision over his future won’t be made until the end of the financial year, which typically comes in June.
This means that Van Nistelrooy is set to oversee the final fixtures in the Premier League, with the team hoping to at least move ahead of Ipswich Town and secure 18th in the table.
If Leicester are going to depart with Van Nistelrooy then a shortlist of potential candidates will need to be drawn up to replace him.
It has been reported by Dorsett that three names in particular have emerged as possible options, including Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl.
The German has earned a lot of praise for the work he’s done at Hillsborough, safely guiding the club away from relegation last year, and cementing them in a mid-table position this season.
Other candidates include England U21 manager Lee Carsley, who also acted as a caretaker boss for the senior side following Gareth Southgate’s exit in 2024.
Russell Martin’s name has also been mentioned, with the former Southampton boss currently out of work after being sacked earlier this season.
Another manager that has been linked with taking over the squad for next season is Sean Dyche.
According to Football Insider, Leicester are readying an offer to the 53-year-old to replace Van Nistelrooy for life in the Championship.
It remains to be seen whether he can be convinced to take the step back down to the second tier, having managed in the Premier League for the last several seasons.
Dyche was previously in charge at Everton, where he spent two years, before being dismissed in January and replaced by David Moyes.
The Englishman has twice earned promotion from the Championship during his 10-year stint at Burnley, where he also achieved a best finish of seventh in the Premier League in 2017, earning the club qualification to the Europa League.
