Leonardo Jardim is close to being confirmed as Flamengo’s new head coach.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the Portuguese coach will arrive with four backroom additions. António Vieira, José Barros and Diogo Dias are set to work as his assistants, while a new fitness coach is still being chosen by Jardim and the club.
Flamengo’s coaching structure has already been reshaped following the dismissal of Filipe Luís. Ivan Palanco and Diogo Linhares departed with the former coach, and Rodrigo Caio requested to leave after the ex-left-back’s exit.
Jardim had been in Brazil for a few days, in Minas Gerais on personal commitments. After reaching an agreement with Flamengo, he travelled to Rio de Janeiro.
He arrived at Galeão Airport at around 19:00 Brasília time on Tuesday. His first interaction with the media did not take place, as he left through an alternative exit.
With his unveiling imminent, Flamengo face Fluminense in the first leg of the Carioca final on Sunday. Kick-off is 18:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã.
