Saint-Étienne’s player salaries are markedly lower this season in Ligue two than they were in Ligue one, and a return to the elite would push the wage bill back up, according to L'Équipe.
Last season in Ligue one, Yunis Abdelhamid topped the club’s pay list on €80,000 gross a month, ahead of Ibrahim Sissoko on €70,000 and a group on €60,000 that included Larsonneur, Appiah, Cardona, Fomba, Davitashvili and Wadji.
The wage bill has been drastically reduced this term. Abdelhamid and Sissoko departed last summer. Julien Le Cardinal, on €40,000 and on the payroll only since February after arriving late in the winter window, now leads the earnings list.
He is followed by Davitashvili on €38,000. Four players receive €35,000, Appiah, Cardona, João Ferreira and Chico Lamba.
At €30,000 are Bernauer, Tardieu, Larsonneur and Nadé. The head coach earns €30,000 gross a month.
The average gross monthly salary stands at €32,000. Lucas Stassin is outside the top 10 due to a clause cutting his pay upon relegation last summer. A promotion back to Ligue one at season’s end would be particularly advantageous for him and others.
