Liverpool are set to battle Real Madrid for yet another player. This time it's a brilliant England star.
Liverpool are just destined to find Real Madrid waiting in every transfer window. It's a fact of life now.
Last winter, of course, it was about Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Reds's vice-captain entered the final six months of his contract and that led Real Madrid to make a fairly pitiful offer to sign him early.

Nothing came of that and instead they signed him this summer. But they haven't even stopped there - Ibrahima Konate is on their shortlist and they could try to sign him a year early.
These battles aren't just for Liverpool's players, though, but for their targets, too. Half the Real Madrid squad was once a target for the Reds.
Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Aurélien Tchouameni, Rodrygo Goes, Eduardo Camavinga, Endrick...
Liverpool wanted them all at Anfield - and some we're almost certainly forgetting - but they all picked Real Madrid. And now there's another target on the shortlist of the two clubs.

AS reports that both Real Madrid and Liverpool are eyeing up Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. The midfielder had a breakout campaign last term, forcing his way onto the shortlists of major clubs.
Because these are far from the only two clubs looking at Wharton. The rest of the Premier League elite are keeping tabs on him, with Manchester United looking particularly eager.
But we fully expect Liverpool’s interest to grow significantly over the next season. A deal in the next week seems incredibly improbably, of course, but in 2026? Wharton feels like the perfect signing.
He’s homegrown, young, and fits the playing style. After all, Liverpool wanted to add a deep-lying playmaker last summer in Martin Zubimendi and never did find an alternative.
Well, here’s one in Wharton - the dream signing for the role, as far as we're concerned. But to get him, they’ll need to finally see off Real Madrid.
