Liverpool’s poor performances on the pitch this season have led to plenty of speculation about almost every key figure at the club.

Two of the team’s most experienced players, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, are both leaving for free, whilst talk continues that Alisson Becker could soon depart too.

The pressure has built on head coach Arne Slot as the season has gone on, with the Dutchman even facing boos in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Anfield.

Conflicting reports have speculated about Slot being relieved of his duties, but for now it looks as though he will remain in the dugout at Anfield for the start of next season but another key figure could be leaving Liverpool.

Richard Hughes has been a divisive topic of conversation among supporters since he joined Liverpool in 2024.

The sporting director faced some criticism in his maiden season for failing to sign anyone other than Federico Chiesa and also for his handling of the contract saga involving Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Last summer the 46-year-old oversaw the biggest transfer window in Liverpool’s history, spending over £400 million to bolster a side that had just won the Premier League.

That window was then followed by the Reds finishing fifth in the Premier League, and talk of Hughes moving on from Anfield has persisted since the winter.

Most of the talk has linked the sporting director with a move to Saudi Arabia, but now AC Milan have emerged as a potential suitor.

That’s according to a report from TEAMtalk that states Hughes finds himself on Milan’s shortlist following their recent boardroom clear out after missing out on Champions League qualification.

The report claims that Hughes is focussed on his work at Liverpool, having rejected an advance from Saudi Arabia, but that his ‘deep personal and footballing ties to Italy’ could be a factor.

Hughes spent some of his childhood in Milan and spent time in Atalanta’s academy, a fact AC Milan are well aware of.
