Real Madrid are already planning for next season, and it is known that one of the names firmly on their radar is Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.
The French international’s contract with the Premier League giants runs out next year, and with renewal talks stalling, his future has become one of the most talked-about topics in European football.
Konate himself recently addressed the speculation in an interview with Telefoot (h/t AS). When asked about reports from Spain linking him with a move to Real Madrid, the centre-back could not resist a playful response.
The journalist cheekily suggested that Kylian Mbappe might be lobbying for his arrival in Madrid.
Smiling, Konate replied, “Yes, Kylian Mbappe calls me every two hours,” a comment that drew laughter in the studio.
While light-hearted, his answer did little to cool down the rumours.
Konate’s current deal with Liverpool ends in 2026, but with no extension in sight, the situation is attracting plenty of attention.
At 26, he is considered one of the best centre-backs in European football and has been a regular starter for the French national team over the last two years.
His mix of pace, strength, and composure makes him an ideal profile for a club like Real Madrid, who are looking to reinforce their defence with long-term options.
Reports suggest that Liverpool want to keep him, but they are not prepared to go overboard to secure his renewal. That opens the door for Real Madrid and other clubs to test the waters.
For Los Blancos, Konate represents both quality and experience at the highest level, making him a serious candidate for their transfer plans next summer.
For now, Konate has yet to make a final decision on his future. But with Real Madrid keeping a close watch and Mbappe already in the squad, the Frenchman could be tempted by the chance to start a new chapter in Spain.
