Mohamed Salah exiting Liverpool is probably going to be the biggest story to emerge from Anfield this summer.

The Egyptian King was at least expected to see out his two-year extension with the Reds but, after hardly being used by Arne Slot, he decided enough was enough and had his contract mutually terminated.

This has led to fans going into a meltdown about who Liverpool could sign to replace him and why his successor hasn't been brought in yet.

Indeed, the Reds have added a couple of new players to their ranks already but, with Chelsea signing Morgan Rogers for £117 million and Manchester City signing Elliott Anderson for £116 million, it feels like Liverpool need to make some serious moves soon.

So, the fact that rumours linking Liverpool with one of their former targets have re-emerged surely means that some movement is going to occur soon, right?

At the moment, the market for wingers seems quite underwhelming.

Yan Diomande or Antoine Semenyo were the perfect players for Liverpool to target but, since Diomande is going to Paris Saint-Germain and Semenyo joined Man City in January, those options are now off the table.

This has lad to many questions emerging from Anfield with some fans even wondering whether Federico Chiesa could be handed a regular starting role by Iraola.

However, if Liverpool want to get back to their best, they need to make a marquee signing that can more or less help carry their attack, especially since Hugo Ekitike is still out injured.

And now, a fresh update from Ekrem Konur has given Liverpool's fanbase just a little bit of hope that a marquee attacker can be brought to L4 soon.

"Liverpool are interested in Nico Williams, but Arsenal’s pursuit is currently more advanced," he wrote via his personal X account.

"Arsenal have made new contacts for the Athletic Club winger, with sporting director Andrea Berta assessing whether a deal is feasible.

"His contract includes a £77M release clause, a figure Arsenal and several Premier League clubs can realistically meet.

"Nico Williams is back on Arsenal’s shortlist."

Nico Williams would be a statement of intent from Liverpool

Iraola will want to get his team back to their best as soon as possible.

Everyone involved with Liverpool knows that the 2025-26 season was far from acceptable.

Slot failed to play to the strengths of his players and seemed to turn his back on all of the Reds' academy prospects who probably deserved a chance more than some of his first-team regulars.

However, the thing that makes last season worse is that they spent over £450 million on new players and actually managed to get worse.

Indeed, the transitional stages of the campaign won't have helped things much but, players such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak should have performed much better than they did.

and, if Williams is an option, the Spaniard should be their number one option.

Injuries may have stopped him from having a brilliant season last term as he only managed to contribute to 13 goals across all competitions but, the season prior, he was one of the best attackers in the world.

If Williams could re-find this form at Liverpool, it would be the best £77 million that the club could ever spend, especially with how inflated the market is at the moment.
