Liverpool have their new Roberto Firmino after agreeing to sign him this summer.
At this moment in time all the focus is on Alexander Isak at the club. He is very much the dream target for Richard Hughes and the recruitment team.
Liverpool have been chasing Isak for close to a decade. They wanted him while he was playing at AIK in Sweden. At the time he chose Borussia Dortmund.

Then when Liverpool wanted to add another striker, the recruitment team pushed to sign him while he was at Real Sociedad. Back then Jurgen Klopp’s preference was Darwin Nunez, so in the end the Reds opted to sign the Uruguayan instead.
In hindsight that seems like a major folly but now it’s a mistake Liverpool are trying to rectify.

This is why Edwards has gone all out to sign Isak again, and it looks like Liverpool may finally get their man.
But he’s not the only attacker Liverpool have signed this summer.
Isak is going to be the Nunez replacement. Liverpool have also finally replaced Roberto Firmino this summer.
They haven’t really had an answer to the Brazilian since his departure over two years ago.
At times when Arne Slot wanted a more fluid no.9, he has played Luis Diaz in that role. But he’s nowhere near like Firmino. Diaz did not have the Brazilian’s guile and creativity in that role.
It’s something that Hugo Ekitike does have. He’s going very much under the radar. The fact that Liverpool have actually agreed a deal to sign him and that Ekitike is now a Reds player is almost being forgotten about amid the Isak deal.
Yet Ekitike’s arrival is just as exciting as Isak’s. The Frenchman is a tall version of Firmino in his prime, with incredibly rapid speed to burn as well.
He showed this on his second outing for Liverpool against Athletic Bilbao.
Ekitike demonstrated the link-up skills that made Firmino such an exciting player at Liverpool.
It speaks volumes that only Mohamed Salah (6) created more chances than Ekitike (3) in the game at Anfield.
One of those chances Ekitike created led to Liverpool’s opening goal, with the 23-year-old squaring an inch perfect pass to Salah.
Liverpool have missed Firmino at times over the course of the last two season. In Ekitike they have the perfect heir to his throne.
He’s a striker who isn’t just about goal scoring. He creates chances, makes space for others and improves the attackers around him - something that Firmino was also capable of.
Ultimately, Ekitike has even more strengths than Firmino because of the speed that he possesses which means he can replace elements of Isak’s game, if the Swede isn’t playing.
But because of his creativity, the two of them playing together shouldn’t be ruled out either.
And the prospect of that is mouth watering to say the least.
