Liverpool’s pursuit of Marc Guehi continues to gather momentum, with TEAMtalk reporting fresh updates that suggest the Reds remain in a strong position to land the Crystal Palace captain. Despite the collapse of a £35 million deal on deadline day, Guehi’s desire to join Liverpool appears unwavering.
The 25-year-old defender has made Anfield his preferred destination, reportedly turning down the chance to re-join Chelsea. As journalist Simon Phillips noted: “Marc Guehi is a player that Chelsea would like to sign, and he is universally liked by everyone at the club. However, the club have pretty much walked from that one because he is dead set on joining Liverpool and was never that keen to return to Chelsea anyway.”
A former England Under-21 teammate went further, labelling Guehi an “absolute tank” – a description that perfectly matches his robust playing style and leadership qualities.
While most sources suggest Liverpool could wait until 2026 to secure Guehi on a free transfer, TEAMtalk’s Fraser Fletcher has outlined why a January deal cannot be dismissed. “La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are said to be eyeing Guehi for a January move, adding urgency to Liverpool’s quest,” he explained.
Crystal Palace face a tricky dilemma: either cash in during January or risk losing their captain for nothing later. TEAMtalk adds that Liverpool may test Palace’s resolve with a “lowball offer” or, alternatively, strike an agreement in principle for a summer transfer.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has been open about his disappointment at missing out on Guehi. On the One on One podcast, he admitted: “We would have liked to sign him… For us, it was, of course, a disappointment, but for the player, I assume as well, because he was expecting to come to us.”

This level of transparency shows how highly Slot values the England international and highlights that Guehi remains firmly on Liverpool’s radar.
From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this report feels like another chapter in the club’s long-running search for defensive reinforcements. Guehi’s qualities are undeniable: strong in the tackle, comfortable in possession, and already proven in the Premier League. Being labelled an “absolute tank” is more than just praise – it represents the type of player who could bring stability alongside Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté.
The potential tug of war with Real Madrid and Barcelona adds urgency, but Liverpool fans will know that Guehi’s clear desire to move to Anfield could prove decisive. Supporters have seen similar sagas before, where patience and persistence eventually delivered top-class talent.
Arne Slot’s comments also resonate. His honesty reflects the fact that Liverpool are willing to wait for the right player rather than overspend out of desperation. Fans appreciate that approach, especially given past successes in identifying long-term solutions rather than short-term fixes.
Should Liverpool strike a January deal, it would be viewed as a smart, opportunistic move – capitalising on Palace’s dilemma. If the club waits until the summer, most fans would remain patient, knowing Guehi has his heart set on joining. Either way, his arrival feels more a matter of “when” than “if.”
For many Liverpool fans, the thought of Guehi leading the back line in years to come is an exciting prospect. The key now is ensuring that rivals, particularly abroad, don’t force the Reds into a bidding war.
