Reds are running out of central defensive options ahead of Manchester United showdown

Liverpool have a fortnight to mull over their second Premier League loss of the season.

Throw in the 1-0 reverse at the hands of Galatasaray in the Champions League, the Reds have suffered three straight defeats across all competitions for the first time under Arne Slot.

With the second international break of the campaign upon us, Slot's side don’t have an immediate chance to bounce back from the latest loss, instead they must wait a couple of weeks before facing rivals Manchester United at Anfield.

That said, here’s a look at the latest Liverpool injury news.

Ibrahima Konate

As mentioned above, Ibrahima Konate did not finish the game against Chelsea and Slot has confirmed the substitution was injury related.

The Frenchman complained about a quad issue and while there’s hope it is nothing serious, it remains to be seen if he features during the international break ahead of the Man Utd fixture.

When pressed for an update on Konate, Slot said: “I don’t know if it is a big injury, but what I do know is he limped a little bit and when I asked him he said he felt his quad a little bit.

“Then, for me, all alarm bells go off because in another sprint you never know if that is going to go good.

“It was also already a substitution I had in mind, maybe for a few minutes or a little bit later, because the right centre-back had a lot of ball possession and we needed to create from that position.

“We all know Ryan [Gravenberch] is quite good in that.

“It might be OK that he went off early enough but it was clear I had to take him off because he was limping.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Alisson Becker

Alisson will not feature for Brazil in their upcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan, but Arne Slot is pessimistic over having Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper available for the Man Utd game.

There have been reports that Alisson is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks. While Slot did not confirm a timeline for a return, he did all but rule the goalkeeper out of the Man United showdown on October 19.

"It depends on how fast the recovery goes, so it’s clear that he is not going to play for Brazil,” Slot told reporters ahead of the Chelsea loss.

"I will be surprised if he [Alisson] will be there for the first game after the international break. From there on things can go a bit faster or a bit slower. It's difficult to say the amount of days and weeks.

“For the upcoming games he will not be apart of us or the Brazil team.”

Potential return date: October 22, 2025 vs Eintracht Frankfurt (A)

Giovanni Leoni

Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni faces a year out of action with a serious knee injury.

The 18-year-old centre-back was hurt on his first appearance at Anfield against Championship side Southampton in the third round of the Carabao Cup as he landed awkwardly following a late challenge in the 2-1 win.

He received treatment on the pitch and was eventually stretchered off, with subsequent tests revealing an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Slot has now confirmed that Leoni will be on the sidelines for around a year having torn his ACL.

“He’s not in a good place, of course,” the Reds boss said. “He tore his ACL which means that he will be out for around a year.

“Being so young, coming to a new country, playing so well in your first game, it’s very hard to take the positives. You always try to look at the positive side and that is that he is still so young.

“He still has so many years to go after he recovers from a terrible injury like that.”

Potential return date: Late 2026
