Roland Sallai’s father says Liverpool have already made contact over the Galatasaray defender, raising the prospect of a summer move to Anfield.

“Roli feels good here; he loves the club and isn’t desperate to leave,” said Tibor Sallai. “However, I believe he has one major leap left in his career. Liverpool could be that destination. I know that contact has already been made through a management office.” He told Blikk.

He added that a deal is plausible in the summer if Galatasaray’s valuation is met, and spoke of the appeal of potentially seeing three Hungary internationals, including Dominik Szoboszlai, together at Anfield.

The 28-year-old emerged as a versatile option for the Premier League leaders late in January. Liverpool first explored Sunderland’s Lutsharel Geertruida to bolster right-back, but the Hungary international stayed on their radar after the Black Cats blocked Geertruida’s exit.

Sallai has already faced Arne Slot’s side this season, featuring in Galatasaray’s 1-0 win over Liverpool five months ago. With Galatasaray 5-2 up on Juventus in the Champions League knockout play-off, they are strong candidates to draw the Reds in Friday’s Round of 16.

Used largely at right-back this term, he has six assists in 33 appearances, but his discipline has wavered. He has been sent off twice recently, once for Hungary against the Republic of Ireland and again in stoppage time that ruled him out of the Fenerbahçe derby.

With Sporting Director Richard Hughes reportedly planning squad evolution for next season, the coming European ties could be an audition for Sallai to prove he can meet Premier League demands.
