The discomfort continues for Mohamed Salah at Liverpool. Coming off the bench in the second half in Frankfurt yesterday, the Egyptian international was branded selfish.
With Liverpool, Mohamed Salah hasn't found the net since last September 17. That was on the first matchday of the Champions League. But what’s frustrating fans and the English media is the Pharaoh’s attitude after coming on for the final quarter of an hour.
Brought on in place of Ekitike, Salah had the chance to make an impact but twice opted for the solo route, notably at the expense of Florian Wirtz, who is still chasing his first goal for the Reds. “His desperation to avoid extending his recent goal drought to six appearances was clear in his failed attempts to score from the tightest of angles, when he could and should have simply set up Florian Wirtz for an easy tap-in at the end of the match,” reported The Athletic. Several supporters also took to social media to voice their frustration over Salah’s decision, labeling him selfish.
The Egyptian’s demeanor was also noted. “He headed straight down the tunnel while the celebrations continued. His body language spoke volumes,” wrote The Athletic. Salah saw his team deliver their best performance in a long time—without him. This, after being the Premier League’s best player last season.
It’s also worth noting that Salah has never had so few goals and assists at this stage of the season since joining Liverpool eight years ago.
