Liverpool offered chance to sign Oscar Mingueza as a free agent

One area of Slot's team that could definitely do with an upgrade is his defence.

Although the Reds will have Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni entering the picture next term, there are still a couple of areas among their ranks that could do with some fresh talent being added.

Several top-class players have already been linked with an Anfield switch despite the window not even being open yet.

And now, it seems like the Reds have been offered the chance to sign a new full-back as a free agent.

As per an update from TEAMtalk, Liverpool and three other Premier League clubs have been offered the chance to sign Celta Vigo star Oscar Mingueza with Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Everton also interested in the full-back.

The Spaniard's contract is due to run out at the end of the current season and, with Robertson definitely exiting L4, Slot will have a massive void to fill.

Team talk share that the race to sign Mingueza is 'intensifying' with intermediaries already 'sounding out' potential destinations for their client.

Mingueza is currently 'weighing up his options' with playing time being one of his main concerns.

Oscar Mingueza would be an interesting addition for Liverpool

Liverpool have already been linked with several full-backs this season.

Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez were both brought in during the summer with most fans believing that they'd have enough quality and depth to see out the season.

But, since it took both of them so long to get accustomed to life as a Liverpool player, the Reds have often been left on the backfoot.

Mingueza may not be a household name but, the fact that he can play as both a left-back and a right-back is essential to the Reds' future success.

In fact, Spain's national team manager Luis de la Fuente has even dubbed the Spaniard as a "wonderful" player after the performances he's put in for Celta Vigo this term.

And, the fact that he's available for nothing is another massive selling point as it would enable Slot and Richard Hughes to focus their limited transfer budget on other areas.

There's a lot of good things about a potential move for Mingueza but, since there's still a while until the transfer window opens, there's no knowing what Liverpool will end up doing.
