Liverpool star ‘would definitely have joined Real Madrid’ over the summer | OneFootball

Liverpool summer signing Florian Wirtz would have favoured a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid over all others, had Los Blancos made an offer for his signature.

That’s according to Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro, who this week provided an insight into the situation.

Speaking during an appearance on Sport1, Carro was drawn on the summer speculation linking Wirtz with a move to Spain’s capital.

This comes after Xabi Alonso made the call to swap the BayArena for the Santiago Bernabéu.

And the attacking midfielder, it would appear, was more than keen on the prospect of reuniting with his manager in La Liga:

“He would certainly have gone to Madrid,” Carro began, “if Xabi had made the offer. But Xabi has less say at Madrid than he does with us.”

Wirtz will now be forced to lock horns with Alonso on the continent, as Liverpool prepare to play host to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The German international, who has endured a difficult start to life at Anfield, will be hopeful of turning things around courtesy of a starring performance against the Spanish table-toppers.
