Liverpool are set to benefit from Lewis Travis deal if it is to go through

Premier League champions Liverpool will secure a small financial gain if Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis signs for Derby County.

Travis has been subject to plenty of transfer speculation over the past week, with fellow Championship outfit, Derby County, looking the likely side to sign the experienced midfielder.

Progress has been made between the two clubs, as per the Lancashire Telegraph, in order to get a deal done, but it is not quite at an agreement stage just yet, with Travis informing Blackburn of his desire to depart.

Travis has been a seasoned veteran in Rovers' side after starting his professional career at Ewood Park, progressing through their youth teams before earning his first-team league debut in the 2017/18 season.

Since then, Travis has become a staple in their side due to his leadership qualities and his reliability in the heart of the midfield.

With the 27-year-old set to be on the move this summer, it's been revealed that Premier League champions Liverpool could benefit from the deal.

Liverpool set to benefit from potential Lewis Travis, Derby County deal

It is understood, via journalist Alan Nixon, that Liverpool could benefit from a potential deal for the Blackburn skipper if he was to make the move away from Ewood Park to Pride Park.

The reigning Premier League champions had Travis on their books as a youngster and would financially benefit if Travis were to leave Blackburn, where he is in his 10th season with the club.

Nixon claims that Derby would have to double the £1.5 million offer they currently have on the table to make a deal happen - that is partly due to some of the fee having to go to Anfield.

A matter of whether the skipper is allowed to leave isn't the problem, but instead is the pricing.

Blackburn boss Valerien Ismael made his stance clear, telling BBC Radio Lancashire: "We know that there is interest. He wants to leave, but we said that if the price was right for the club, then we will see.

"When a player is out of contract or has one year left, a player will look (at options). It's not only about Lewis Travis, it's about the football world.

"We have a clear idea of what we want so either we keep our captain or someone matches the price we expected."

Lewis Travis saga needs to be sorted ASAP for Blackburn Rovers' sake

Despite links away from Blackburn and conversations going on in the background, captain Travis was named in Ismael's opening Championship fixture that saw Rovers on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat to West Brom.

Fast-forward a week and Travis was not included in the squad, let alone the bench for Rovers' 1-2 defeat to Birmingham City - it's hard to imagine that a player of his professionalism refused to play, but it's certainly a possibility.

Having made 38 league appearances last season, Travis was surely set to be a key piece in Ismael's side for the upcoming season, but with his heart lying with Derby County, his transfer may seem inevitable - John Eustace and co just need to make a better bid.

Blackburn need this situation sorted as soon as possible though for their own good - they'll need a Travis replacement in the engine room, and they won't have much time to find one.
