Andoni Iraola continues his preparations for his first season in charge of the Anfield side

Liverpool take on Leeds in a pre-season friendly in Chicago as preparations for the 2026/27 Premier League season ramp up.

Andoni Iraola’s maiden season in charge at Anfield is a significant one as the club looks to bounce back from a dismal title defence under Arne Slot.

Iraola has overseen two pre-season friendly wins so far, beating Sunderland 4-2 and Wrexham 1-0, with youngster Rio Ngumoha netting the winner over the Welsh side in New York on Wednesday.

Leeds have also faced Wrexham and Sunderland, losing 3-2 to the former but beating the latter 1-0 thanks to a Felix Nmecha winner.

Daniel Farke secured his side’s Premier League safety after a difficult start to last season following promotion; they ultimately finished in 14th, and will want to build on that moving forward.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Liverpool vs Leeds is scheduled for a 9pm BST kick-off on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

The match will take place at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Liverpool vs Leeds team news

Liverpool will be without Joe Gomez after Iraola confirmed he is facing a month on the sidelines with a muscle injury. He joins fellow centre-back Giovanni Leoni in the physio’s room.

Summer signing Jeremy Jacquet may debut here, though, after shaking off a shoulder injury suffered in the spring.

Also available are Ryan Gravenberch, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

The 17-year-old wonderkid Ngumoha is impressing under Iraola so far, having been included in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup pre-tournament camp, and should get more minutes in the legs here.

Leeds’ new signing Harry Wilson has featured in both of their games so far.

Liverpool vs Leeds prediction

Liverpool have named much-changed teams so far and are still finding their rhythm, but have still recorded two wins out of two so far.

They should beat a Leeds side who are weaker on paper, but still boast strong attacking talent in the form of Nmecha and Wilson.

Liverpool to win, 1-0.
