Reds host European champions in huge game at Anfield

Liverpool are looking to take a major step toward automatic qualification for the knockout rounds of the Champions League when they host Real Madrid in a heavyweight fixture on Wednesday night.

Arne Slot’s side sit top of the pile in Europe after a stunning season thus far, having smashed Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 last time out in this competition.

This, however, will offer arguably their biggest test yet. Madrid haven’t always convinced but are the European champions after all and generally turn on the style for big nights in this particular tournament.

That said, Carlo Ancelotti’s side sit some way off the automatic spots as things stand, having already lost twice in the opening phase and were beaten by AC Milan earlier this month.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Liverpool vs Real Madrid is scheduled for an 8pm GMT kick-off time on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Anfield in Liverpool will host.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid team news

It's a case of as your were for Liverpool, with Trent Alexander-Arnold unlikely to feature after missing the win at Southampton with a hamstring injury.

He has joined goalkeepr Alisson Becker, who is also still sidelined with a similiar problem, Diogo Jota (chest injury) and Federico Chiesa (fitness) in the treatment room.

It's a different story for Real Madrid, who hope to have Rodrygo, Aurelien Tchouameni and Lucas Vazquez all available after injury. Arda Guler and Dani Ceballos started against Leganes, but could drop out.

So strong at home in Europe and having made light work of the Champions League thus far, Liverpool look a fearsome prospect.

Still, it’s equally as difficult to write off Madrid – despite their recent struggles.

Draw, 2-2.
