Liverpool want midfield star: Club pushes to complete €50m sale

Liverpool are in a good position to sign a midfield star. There's a push to complete a sale from his club and it could happen fast.

Liverpool are in the market right now for a new midfielder. Curtis Jones looks virtually certain to leave, probably for Inter, and it would leave the Reds short on options.

But this is also a squad that needs something fresh in midfield anyway. Things didn’t work last season, with Liverpool struggling badly to control games both in attack and defence.

New blood makes sense, then, hopefully a player with the ability to win the ball back as well as control possession. That’s the dream, anyway.

One such player Liverpool are looking at is Khephren Thuram at Juventus. Tuttosport is the latest to report on their interest, though several other Premier League clubs would also like Thuram.

Juventus are aware that he’ll probably leave and the report claims they’re actively pushing to complete a €50m sale. It’s not thought they’re particularly picky about where that’s too - but they’re chasing the money to sign Franck Kessie as his replacement.

Offer that, then, and a deal will move quickly. It’s one that makes sense for Liverpool, too, as Thuram is one of the best all-around midfielders in his age group across the top five leagues.

Few match his output both going forward and defensively and snapping him up for a sort-of reasonable fee is solid business for someone. Especially Liverpool, given their need to sign in the role.

Elliot Anderson’s £116m move to Manchester City has warped this market, after all. Anderson may well be the best possible option for an all-around midfielder under 25 but it’s not as though he’s a million miles ahead of his rivals there.

Thuram is absolutely one of them and for under half the money? That feels like very good business to us, and particularly at a time of need for Liverpool.

One to watch, then.
