Reds boosted by return of Egyptian forward but Ibrahima Konate could miss out

Mohamed Salah could make his first Liverpool appearance in over a month when they face Marseille in the Champions League.

Since then the forward has been away in Morocco on international duty with Egypt, helping the Pharaohs finish fourth at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Prior to leaving for AFCON duty, Salah had gone three games without starting for the Reds and was left on the bench for two of those, resulting in an outburst after the 3-3 draw with Leeds.

As a result, it remains to be seen if the 33-year-old is handed an immediate recall especially after Florian Wirtz - playing off the right - scored in the 1-1 draw with Burnley at the weekend.

Ibrahima Konate was not part of the aforementioned 21-man Liverpool squad that travelled after returning to France separately for family reasons and Arne Slot has revealed he will speak with the defender on Wednesday morning regarding whether he will join up with the team.

Joe Gomez is in contention to replace Konate in central defence, partnering captain Virgil van Dijk who is set to make his 350th appearance for the club.
