According to L'Équipe, Arne Slot said on Friday that Mohamed Salah will return to action with Liverpool next week, though he did not confirm whether the forward will feature away to Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Egypt winger is due to play the Africa Cup of Nations third-place play-off against Nigeria at 17:00 on Saturday, so he will not be available for the home league match against Burnley later that day.
The manager added the Marseille trip is a live discussion between player and club.
Before departing for the tournament, Salah had lost his starting role at Liverpool, his club since 2017, and publicly voiced frustration while hinting he might leave Anfield, remarks that left Slot in a difficult spot.
Even so, Slot expressed delight at his impending return and stressed Salah’s importance, noting he would welcome him back even if he had 15 forwards.
Liverpool remain without defenders Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley for the rest of the season, while striker Alexander Isak is sidelined for several months. French forward Hugo Ekitike returned in the FA Cup on Monday after two games out.
