Liverpool needed Mohamed Salah’s penalty in stoppage time to edge past Burnley 1 - 0 on Sunday and keep their perfect start to the Premier League season alive.
Promoted Burnley looked set to claim deserved point after determined display at Turf Moor despite going down to 10 men when Leslie Ugochukwu was sent off in the closing stages.
However their resilience was undone deep into injury time. Tunisian midfielder Hannibal Mejbri handled the ball inside the box gifting Liverpool decisive chance.
Mohamed Salah took advantage of it and scored the penalty kick to secure Liverpool's fourth consecutive league victory.
It was his 35 penalty goal for the club moving him past Billy Liddell’s long standing record of 34.
The strike also lifted Salah to 4th place on the PL’s all time scoring chart with 188 goal.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Salah admitted the challenge was tougher than expected:
"Burnley were difficult opponent. We tried to find spaces between the lines and it wasn’t easy. But I’m happy we came away with the win"
He also highlighted the team’s process of adaptation with new arrivals:
"Some players are still adjusting to our system. We’re working to make them feel comfortable. Alexander Isak joined last week and he’ll be important for us. It’s all about finding balance"
At 33, Salah insists hunger's unchanged:
"We don’t give up. We push ourselves and the team to the limit"
The statement sparked wide reaction on social media reinforcing his role as both Liverpool’s leader and Premier League legend.
