Paul Merson has claimed Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens looks “lost” after a difficult start to life at Stamford Bridge.
Gittens joined from Borussia Dortmund in the summer in a deal worth an initial £48m plus £3.5m in add-ons, and was one of five attackers to arrive at the club.
The 21-year-old showed some impressive form in the Bundesliga , but he’s yet to to transfer that into a Chelsea shirt.
Gittens has started two of Chelsea’s opening five games in all competitions, but was an unused substitute in Wednesday night’s defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The England under-21 international has struggled to make an impact in any of his appearances, and with the signing of Alejandro Garnacho, and the versatility of Pedro Neto there’s stiff competition on the left wing.

It’s still early days, but Gittens really needs to find his form quickly and step up, otherwise he’s going to find himself at the bottom of the pecking order.
Enzo Maresca has likened Gittens to Garnacho, and it looks like it could be a straight fight between the duo for a starting spot.
Danny Murphy has claimed Chelsea downgraded by signing Gittens, and now Merson has had his say on the struggling winger when discussing which attackers should start against Manchester United.
“I think Joao Pedro up front and Palmer in behind is a given,” he told Sportskeeda.
“But who else do they play? I don’t think Pedro Neto has done enough for Chelsea and Jamie Gittens looks a bit lost! They must play Estevao, let him off the leash.
Whilst Gittens has struggled to make an impact, Garnacho has shown some promise in his two substitute appearances.

The Argentine international returns to Old Trafford on Saturday, no doubt with a point to prove to his former club.
Garnacho could be in line for his first start, and it would be a great story if he was able to score against his former club, but it feels like he’s now ready for his first start.
