Grêmio have confirmed the appointment of Portuguese coach Luís Castro on a two-year deal, with an option for a further year.
Castro said in a social media post that he was delighted to take on the Imortal Tricolor after his announcement on Friday night.
He praised the club's rich and inspiring history, said he was honoured to represent an institution of such prestige and scale, and promised to continue the path with dignity and respect. The post featured the club anthem.
There was also a welcome message from technical coordinator Luiz Felipe Scolari, who highlighted the passion and strength of the support and pledged full backing for the new staff. He recalled his own warm reception in Portugal and invited Castro and his team to feel at home, mentioning chimarrão and churrasco.
Castro will be joined by a six-strong staff, comprising assistants Vítor Severino and Pedro Mané, goalkeeping coach Daniel Correia, performance analyst Nuno Baptista, and fitness coaches Nuno Cerdeira and Roberto Júnior, known as Betinho. All are Portuguese except Betinho, a Brazilian and former Flamengo member of staff.
