Lutsharel Geertruida’s future at Sunderland remains unclear this summer, a situation that could alert Premier League rivals. Sunderland Echo notes that the loanee could be on the move again.
The 25-year-old spent 2025/26 on loan from RB Leipzig, with an option to buy understood to be just under £20 million. Sky Germany reports the clause has now lapsed, adds that Leipzig intend a permanent sale, and says interest has emerged from the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga.
Sky Germany also indicates Sunderland remain in contention after fresh talks, are seeking a reduced fee and that no decision has been made. The World Cup could provide the defender with an unexpected platform to bolster his prospects.
TEAMtalk reports that Leeds United, Aston Villa, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace have been tracking developments, while sides in Italy, Germany, France and Spain have made enquiries to his parent club.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are said to have cooled their interest. They tried to recruit him in January amid an injury crisis, but following the departure of head coach Arne Slot, who previously worked with Geertruida at Feyenoord, Voetbal International reports there is currently no contact with Anfield’s recruitment team.
