Sunderland are braced for a busy summer, with eight players approaching the end of deals and uncertainty around Lutsharel Geertruida after his loan.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Geertruida will not remain at Sunderland beyond the summer and the €23m option will not be triggered. He is set to return to RB Leipzig first, though there is a strong chance he does not continue there either, with a permanent move being explored and enquiries already made in Europe’s top five leagues.
The Netherlands international joined on a season-long loan last summer and has been a reliable presence at the Stadium of Light.
As it stands, he is not the only potential departure, with several others in the final weeks of their current deals. Those due to reach the end of terms this summer are Simon Moore, Bertrand Traore, Dennis Cirkin, Harrison Jones, Niall Huggins, Zak Johnson and Dan Neil, alongside the on-loan Geertruida. Huggins, Johnson and Neil are currently out on loan.
Further contracts run into 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030, so decisions stretch well beyond this window as a memorable Premier League return winds down.
