Fenerbahçe have announced the signing of Manchester City defender Nathan Aké, a move that has left the Premier League champions surprised as key details are yet to be approved. The Istanbul club presented the transfer as complete despite City not having signed off the final paperwork.

The club said in a statement that it had reached an agreement with the Netherlands international and signed a contract, adding that he would join their Austria camp once permissions are completed.

The announcement caused bewilderment at the Etihad, and club executives maintain administrative matters are still being discussed. Any completion will depend on those being resolved.

Talks centre on an initial £7 million fee, with performance-related add-ons that could lift the total to about £8.5 million.

Aké joined City from Bournemouth in 2020 for £41 million and has since won multiple Premier League titles and the Champions League. A switch to Türkiye would end a six-year stay.

He made only six Premier League starts in 2025/26. With Enzo Maresca reshaping his defence as younger options emerge, Aké is seeking a fresh start in Istanbul.
