Manchester City could be boosted by the return of Ruben Dias for their crunch Premier League clash with Liverpool.

Dias was back on the bench for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup win against Newcastle after almost a month out with a hamstring injury and is in contention to start at centre-back alongside Marc Guehi at Anfield.

Asked on Friday whether Dias will start, Pep Guardiola said: “We’ll see. But it’s good news for us.”

If Dias is not ready to start, Abdudokir Khusanov will continue alongside Guehi.

Erling Haaland is set to come back into the team after Omar Marmoush led the line against Newcastle and scored two goals.

“Always I said, Erling is the best striker in the world,” said Guardiola on Friday when asked if Haaland will come straight back into the side. “I don’t know. We will see tomorrow. Always, I say Erling is the best.”

Marmoush and Haaland could both start, as they did against Galatasaray recently, but Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo are likely to start on the wings.

City have been sweating over the fitness of Bernardo Silva after he missed the midweek Carabao Cup win over Newcastle after suffering a knock at Tottenham last weekend.

Tijjani Reijnders had one of his best games in a while against Newcastle and could continue in midfield. Nico Gonzalez and Nico O'Reilly are other option to play in midfield.

“We don’t know [about Bernardo] yet, tomorrow training,” said Guardiola on Friday.

John Stones is back in training after his thigh injury but this game is likely to come too soon.

Jeremy Doku, Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic and Savinho are all still sidelined.

Predicted Man City XI (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guehi, O’Reilly; Gonzalez, Rodri, Reijnders; Cherki; Haaland, Semenyo

Injured: Doku, Savinho, Gvardiol, Kovacic
