Manchester United are considering a move for Murillo as the Red Devils look to bolster their rearguard this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Man Utd are preparing to lose Harry Maguire for free, and Murillo is ‘prominent on Man United’s radar.’

Murillo has impressed for Nottingham Forest, especially last season, playing a key role in securing Europa League football.

The Brazilian is a ‘fantastic talent’. He is a stocky, aggressive defender who plays on the front foot and would be a terrific pick-up for Man United.

The 23-year-old is reportedly open to leaving this summer, and Old Trafford could be his next stomping ground.

He is the ideal competition for the oft-injured Lisandro Martinez, allowing Luke Shaw to return to his favoured left-back position. Still, United must tread carefully.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been clear about the need for smarter recruitment, and Murillo would command a hefty fee that Forest are under no pressure to discount.

With multiple areas of the squad crying out for attention, pouring a large chunk of the budget into one centre-back feels indulgent rather than prudent.

There are cheaper, arguably wiser options available. Marcos Senesi, for instance, is set to be available on a free transfer this summer and would represent outstanding value.

The Argentine already boasts proven Premier League experience with Bournemouth.

He is comfortable taking the ball out of defence, and plays with the same front-foot aggression that makes Murillo so appealing.

In fact, Senesi’s reading of the game and distribution could make him an even cleaner fit for United’s build-up needs.

At 28, he offers a blend of experience and peak-level reliability without the inflated price tag.

For a club trying to reset financially and structurally, that kind of deal makes far more sense.

Man United need to save their funds for bolstering the midfield, and that means choosing Senesi over Murillo.
