Manchester United are in line for an unexpected boost to their transfer budget, with former academy talent Maxi Oyedele on the verge of a big move this summer.

Oyedele left United last summer to join Legia Warsaw on a permanent move.

A regular for United’s Under-18s and Under-23s, Oyedele was part of Erik ten Hag’s pre-season squad but he wasn’t given a chance to feature for the senior team in a competitive fixtrure. He had loan spells at Altrincham and Forest Green Rovers – moves which significantly aided his development.

He has been a revelation at Legia Warsaw, taking great strides in his career. Oyedele made 24 appearances for the Polish side in the 2024/25 season, helping them win the Polish Cup for a 21st time.

It appears Oyedele’s impressive performances have caught the eye of several top European clubs, and it’s good news for United.

When the Red Devils sold the 20-year-old to Legia Warsaw, they smartly included a substantial sell-on clause to secure a slice of any future profit. Less than a year later, that decision looks set to pay dividends.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the sell-on clause stands at around 40 per cent, meaning United are entitled to a sizeable chunk of any fee Legia Warsaw net from parting ways with Oyedele.

Romano wrote on X, “Maxi Oyedele will leave Legia Warsaw with several clubs keen on signing him for €6m clause.”

“Man United due to receive 40%.”

“Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Werder Bremen, PSV and two Championship sides have all called for Oyedele.”

If Oyedele secures a move for the reported €6m fee, United stand to pocket just over £2m thanks to the sell-on clause.

The funds would provide a welcome boost to Amorim’s transfer budget while also helping the club stay within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
