Manchester United Women have had a busy transfer window, and it is only the second day.
Before the end of the year, popular midfielder Hinata Miyazawa signed a new long-term contract to keep her at the club.
The Red Devils have also signed Hanna Lundkvist on a free transfer from San Diego Wave to compete for the full-back spot.
Marc Skinner’s side have also brought in some experienced firepower during this window.
It was announced just a few days ago that they had signed the experienced German striker Lea Schuller from Bayern Munich.
Manchester United have a busy 2026 to look forward to, as they have safely made it to the knockout stage of the Champions League, where they will play Atletico Madrid in February.
They will also be involved in three other domestic tournaments and will need squad depth more than ever before.
For that reason, journalist Sully has revealed that “for the women’s side, a midfielder is a much-needed position which can assist with depth as they enter a tough second half of the season.”
The report adds that it is understood that “Manchester United Women are looking at signing a midfielder this January window if all procedures go to plan, with the club assessing multiple targets.”
Internal discussions are said to have taken place over the month of December, and they are looking at numerous options.
The Director of Women’s Football at Manchester United, Matt Johnson, “would ideally like a player who has experience.”
The BBC also reports that United are looking at some big-name players in that position who will excite fans.
United have a young squad, but the recent signings of Lea Schuller, Fridolina Rolfo, Jess Park and Julia Olme have demonstrated that the Red Devils are keen to add proven European experience to their squad when possible.
