Ruben Amorim may look to shuffle his back line
Ruben Amorim will be without two defenders for Manchester United’s visit to the City Ground this weekend.
United face Nottingham Forest having won three on the spin, and Amorim will hope to keep the good feeling going as he faces Sean Dyche, who has been critical of his tactical approach.
Amorim’s side made it through their win over Brighton last week with no fresh injuries. Lisandro Martinez is closing in on a return to play after tearing his ACL in February and is back in full team training, but the match will come too soon for him to be involved.
Harry Maguire missed the meeting with the Seagulls with a knock, about which little has been revealed, and Amorim said he is unsure whether the centre-back will be involved at the City Ground.
The trick for Man United this week will be to build on the successes of their previous outings. To that end, Amorim will likely shy away from making wholesale changes, especially as his side did not play in midweek.
There is no reason to drop Senne Lammens, who has impressed since taking over the No1 ‘keeper berth from Altay Bayindir.
Problems arise, however, in the back three, which could demand some tweaks after United shipped two goals against Brighton, meaning Noussair Mazraoui or Ayden Heaven could slot in for the ever-inconsistent Leny Yoro.
Supporters have been crying out for Kobbie Mainoo to get a chance in the starting line-up for some time, but he will struggle to unseat Casemiro after he both scored and assisted against Brighton. Captain Bruno Fernandes remains effectively undroppable after he made his 300th appearance for the club last time out - his creativity will be key to breaking down Dyche’s disciplined Forest.
There is little reason for Amorim to shake up the accepted front three of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, either. Cunha will look to build on his remarkable record against Forest - he has three goals in four appearances against the Tricky Trees.
Predicted Manchester United XI (3-4-2-1): Lammens; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Shaw; Diallo, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dalot; Mbeumo, Cunha; Sesko
Injured: Martinez
Doubt: Maguire
Time and date: 3pm GMT, Saturday November 1, 2025
