Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has won a top prize following his fantastic performance in Monday’s 4-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Fernandes ran the show as United put bottom-of-the-table Wolves to the sword at the Molineux.
He scored the opener, making the best out of a poor pass from Matheus Cunha to swivel and fire the ball into the back of the Wolves net.
Wolves restored parity just before the break but an inspired Fernandes performance saw the Red Devils storm to victory in the second period. Fernandes released Diogo Dalot, who easily crossed the ball into the path of Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroonian forward tapped home from close range to restore United’s advantage.
Fernandes was at it moments later, delivering locating Mason Mount inside the box with a superb delivery. Mount applied the finish to put the game to bed and secure all three points.
The United skipper made it 4-1 in the 82nd minute when he converted from the penalty spot.
Fernandes was named WhoScored’s Player of the Week and was also included in the statisticians’ Team of the Week selection alongside teammates Cunha, Amad and Dalot.
Now, the Premier League have confirmed that Fernandes is the Premier League Player of the Matchweek for Matchweek 15.
Fernandes becomes just the second player, after Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo, to be voted Player of the Matchweek twice this season. He also won the prize in Matchweek 13.
The Portuguese playmaker garnered 50 per cent of the fan vote.
His closest competitor, Rayan Cherki of Manchester City, managed 14 per cent.
The other six nominees were Anton Stach (10 per cent), Phil Foden (nine per cent), Xavi Simons (seven per cent), Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (six per cent), Boubacar Kamara (three per cent) and Adam Wharton (one per cent).
