Manchester United have big decisions to make to revamp their underperforming squad.
According to the Athletic, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo ‘offer pure profit in the eyes of the accountants and INEOS are expected to make unemotional judgements on all outgoings’.
Garnacho and Mainoo have emerged as the shining stars of United’s academy, making a remarkable breakthrough into the first team.
The former has played over 110 senior games for the Red Devils, scoring 23 goals and 14 assists.
He rose to prominence under Erik ten Hag, adding dynamism and much-needed freshness in the attack.
He competed with Marcus Rashford for the left-wing spot and also displayed his versatility by thriving on the opposite flank.
Garnacho has played 11 times under Amorim but has failed to impress.
Amorim’s introduction of a 3-4-2-1 formation has posed a challenge, with Garnacho yet to adapt to the new tactical set-up.
The young attacker prefers to play on the wings, but Amorim has used him as one of the number 10s.
Mainoo has made 52 appearances and is widely regarded as a generational talent.
He brought stability and control to the midfield under Ten Hag, and he is adapting well under Amorim’s guidance.
However, there are still areas of his game that need improvement. While he excels at reading the game, his ball distribution remains an aspect he needs to refine.
Mainoo often covered for the shortcomings of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in midfield last season.
He now benefits from a perfect partnership with Manuel Ugarte.
The Red Devils face limited room to sign players due to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
However, INEOS must not consider selling Garnacho or Mainoo. Both players are breathtaking talents with the potential to serve United for years to come.
A decision on their future could be made in 2026, depending on their development and discipline.
