MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with CD Plaza Amador hosting Managua FC in Group A on Tuesday at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, Panama.
Plaza Amador leads the group on six points and seeks to inch closer to clinching a top two finish to advance to the Quarterfinals. The Panamanian side is coming off a consecutive victory in group play with a 5-3 result at Antigua GFC. Jorlian Sánchez scored a brace, and Everardo Rose delivered a goal and an assist in the encounter.
Plaza Amador made history in Week Three with a thrilling 5-3 win over Guatemala’s Antigua GFC. The Panamanian side became the first-ever debutant in Concacaf Central American Cup history to win their opening two matches while coming from behind. They also became only the second debuting team to score five goals on the road, following FC Motagua’s 5-0 triumph over Verdes FC in 2023.
Last place in the group, Managua FC, will play its final Group Stage match and will seek to exit the tournament with its first victory of the campaign. Juan Barrera leads the team with a goal and an assist in the 2025 edition. The Nicaraguan club was held scoreless in its latest CAC match, a 1-nil loss at Alianza FC.
Historic Series
CD Plaza Amador and Managua FC will meet for the first time in the Concacaf Central American Cup.
For Plaza Amador, this will mark their fifth official Concacaf encounter against Nicaraguan clubs, holding a record of three wins and one draw. Two of these victories came in the Concacaf Champions Cup, and the other two matches in the Scotiabank Concacaf League ended with a win and a draw.
The Panamanian side’s only previous meeting with a Nicaraguan team without a win came against CD Walter Ferretti in the Scotiabank Concacaf League on August 17, 2017, in a 0-0 draw during the first leg of the quarterfinals at Estadio Independencia in Estelí (NCA). Plaza Amador advanced, winning the series 2-1 on aggregate.
Managua FC will face a Panamanian club for the very first time in its Concacaf international history. Until now, the Nicaraguan side had only faced teams from Honduras (FC Motagua L-1-2 and 1-1; CD Olimpia L-6-0 in the Scotiabank Concacaf League), El Salvador (FAS D-1-1 in the SCL), Guatemala (CSD Municipal W-1-0 in the Central American Cup), Costa Rica (Deportivo Saprissa L-2-3 and Guanacasteca D-1-1 in the Central American Cup), and Nicaragua itself (Real Estelí FC L-3-0 in the Central American Cup).
