Manchester City have discovered their opponents for the opening week of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign after the Premier League released the scheduling calendar for the upcoming season.

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will be keen on reclaiming the Premier League title from newly-crowned champions Liverpool, who secured first place in the league last term in Arne Slot’s debut year in charge at Anfield.

Liverpool are nearing the signing of once-City target Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen but the Blues have taken the transfer window by the scruff of the neck themselves – securing the arrivals of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

City’s new director of football Hugo Viana has not wasted any time in freshening up the squad and Guardiola has been given a major boost for the Club World Cup, with a majority of summer transfer business out of the way early doors.

A new right-back is still on the cards for the Premier League champions between 2021 and 2024, who went through the motions last term after years of unparalleled success and suffered their most draining season under Guardiola.

The Manchester City boss admitted to the previous season being the most challenging of his managerial career – which is some statement for a man who bore a historic rivalry with Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid at boyhood club Barcelona.

However, with some fresh faces in the building and following the return of key players from injury – not least Ballon d’Or winner Rodri – Guardiola and co are raring to go once again to prove their doubters wrong and win the Premier League next term.

City were also eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage by Real Madrid last term – and Guardiola, who signed a new contract till 2027 in the fall of 2024 – will be desperate to begin a rebuild in strong fashion come August.

And as the Premier League announce their full preliminary fixture list for the brand new campaign kicking off in August, City have found out that their first opponents of the new season will be Wolves at Molineux on Saturday 16 August, with kick-off scheduled for 17:30.
