  • Manchester City have identified Elliot Anderson as their clear number one priority transfer target this summer.
  • Those at the Etihad Stadium had an opening bid in the region of £80 million rejected by Evangelos Marinakis and Forest.
  • A second bid via a verbal proposal has now landed exceeding £120 million in total.

Hugo Viana and Manchester City have launched a second proposal to Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson, it has been revealed.

Anderson currently has three years remaining on his existing Nottingham Forest contract, originally signed after joining from Newcastle United in the summer of 2023.

Those at the City Ground secured the services of the now-23 year-old for £35 million, which also saw Odysseas Vlachodimos head in the opposition direction, seeing the North-East midfielder valued at around £15 million at the time.

Since then, Anderson has emerged as one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders, and in the most-recent campaign featured in all 38 of Nottingham Forest’s top-flight matches, scoring four goals and offering four assists.

It was that form that saw Anderson secure his senior England debut in September 2025, and after being named in Thomas Tuchel’s FIFA World Cup squad this summer, he is expected to play a crucial role for his country wearing the No.8 shirt in North America.

Simultaneously, Manchester City are desperate to fend off rival transfer interest and potentially a skyrocketing valuation depending on his performances on the global stage, with Manchester United also understood to be keen.

Man City’s second bid for Elliot Anderson revealed

Now, according to MailSport’s Jack Gaughan and Tom Collomosse, Manchester City have made a second bid for Elliot Anderson worth £106 million plus a further £15 million in bonuses, with Nottingham Forest looking for £110 million before bonuses.

Should the proposal be accepted by those at the City Ground, the England international midfielder would set a new record transfer fee for a British player.

Additional reporting from The Athletic’s David Ornstein states that in order to consider a sale of Anderson, Nottingham Forest want the fixed fee to exceed the current £125 million British record Liverpool paid Newcastle for Alexander Isak last summer.

What other business are Man City aiming for?

Aside from the excitement surrounding new players potentially coming into the Etihad Stadium, arguably the most notably ongoing negotiation concerns the club’s new manager replacing Pep Guardiola – who left this summer after a decade and 20 trophies.

It is presently understood that City remain in ongoing talks with Chelsea over a compensation package for Stamford Bridge’s former manager Enzo Maresca, who left the West London side six months ago.

Officials within City are also admirers of Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, while the future of Nico Gonzalez remains uncertain after the Spaniard became unhappy with a lack of opportunities under Pep Guardiola during the second-half of last season.

Other positions believed to be undergoing attention from Hugo Viana and his colleagues are right-back – as City aim for a natural operator to compliment Matheus Nunes – and winger amid Tottenham’s pursuit of a permanent deal for Savinho.
