Manchester United are being linked with a move for Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios.

It looks like midfield is the next position United want to focus on after already signing a centre-forward and a centre-back. A central midfielder to protect the back four is what we need because Casemiro is not the player he once was.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte has been tipped with a move to Old Trafford, with reports suggesting the Uruguay international has agreed personal terms with United.

While the move is still in play between United and PSG, the Reds are being linked with a separate South American midfielder at a cheaper price.

According to Goal Brasil, United are interested in signing Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios.

Reports in Brazil claim the midfielder recently received an enquiry from United and has also attracted interest from Serie A giants AC Milan.

It is suggested that United are preparing an offer of around £17m for the midfielder.

It sounds like both clubs are monitoring the South American market for new talent. That is a positive as far as United are concerned because we’ve passed on the opportunity of getting players for cheaper before they establish themselves in the European leagues.

It’s about getting their first like Real Madrid did with the incredible Vinicius Junior.

Richards Rios

The midfielder joined Palmeiras in March 2023 from Brazilian second-division side Guarani, after previously playing for Flamengo.

Rios, 24, stems from Colombia and has 13 international caps for his country.

Since arriving at Palmeiras, the central midfielder has made 82 appearances.

He was on the receiving end of defeat against Lisandro Martinez’s Argentina in the Copa America final.

Rios has been linked with multiple clubs in the Premier League.

Everton and Leicester City were named in recent days as potential destinations for the midfielder, according to Nicola Parcerias.

The South American journalist reported via his YouTube channel on 18 July that both clubs have already approached the player, who returned to his club on Saturday following a post-Copa America break.

It was reported at the time that Rios has an “astronomical” release clause worth around €100 million but Palmeiras would reportedly be open to negotiate for around €20m [£16.8m] which is a considerable difference.
