Manchester United midfielder Grace Clinton has successfully fended off competition to win the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Last week, it emerged that Clinton and Maya Le Tissier were nominated for the prize and now the former has officially claimed it.

Clinton spent last season out on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, where she impressed and thrived.

During her time in North London, the 21-year-old managed four goals and as many assists, as she helped the side to a sixth-placed finish in the WSL.

Tottenham also made it to the FA Cup final, where they were beaten by Marc Skinner’s United at Wembley.

Clinton was ineligible to play against her parent club on that occasion.

The midfielder’s performances for Tottenham also earned her a place in the England team. She marked the feat by scoring on her debut as the Lionesses beat Austria.

She has scooped up the PFA Young Player of the Year ahead of other stars like Aggie Beever-Jones, Lauren James, Khiara Keating, Jess Park and of course, Le Tissier.

Clinton said (via Goal), “It’s such an honour to be voted by the unbelievable players that play in this league. It’s the best league in the world…”

“To go out on loan, learning as a young player and being recognized is lovely. I’ve played with confidence and when you play with that then you see the best version of a player.”

“Tottenham have been a massive part of my journey, and I can’t thank them enough.”

She added, “Goals and visualization are important to me but most of all just enjoying playing. If I’m enjoying myself then I play my best football.”

It’s believed that Skinner wants to keep Clinton ahead of the upcoming season. United kick off their campaign on September 21 when they meet West Ham.
