The thinking at a lot of Premier League clubs is that Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United and West Ham United are the three teams most likely to encounter difficulties this term as far as survival goes, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.
He claimed in his ‘Inside Football’ bi-weekly newsletter today that the current form and standing of Leeds, West Ham and Wolves in the table have made most of their counterparts reach this conclusion.
The Elland Road club are currently 16th in the table, but they are just a point above the relegation zone and have lost four of their last six league games.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke hopes to turn their fortunes around after the international break, but they have some tough fixtures in the coming weeks.
The Whites take on Aston Villa when Premier League action resumes before games against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
18th-place West Ham won their last two games but manager Nuno Espirito Santo faces a tricky run of games in the coming weeks.
The Hammers face Bournemouth, Liverpool, Manchester United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Aston Villa and Manchester City before Christmas.
They will need to be at the top of their game if they want to pick up more points going forward and escape relegation.
Wolves have yet to win a league game this season, losing nine times and drawing the remaining two, and their soon-to-be manager Rob Edwards has plenty of work on his hands.
They have scored the fewest goals (seven) and conceded the most goals (25) so far this term, and while they are only eight points off safety, it is hard to see the rock-bottom team in the table escaping the drop.
There are 27 games remaining and plenty to play for, so Wolves, West Ham and Leeds could all end up staying up.
The likes of Nottingham Forest (19th), Burnley (17th), Fulham (16th) and Newcastle United (14th) are also far from safe following an underwhelming start to the campaign.
Predicting the three clubs to get relegated at the end of the season could be too early, but the early signs do not look good for Wolves, Leeds and West Ham, and they need to hit the ground running when action resumes.
