Manchester United are constantly on the lookout to improve their squad despite their improved start to the season this year.
The Red Devils are keen to bolster their midfield in January and the summer, being linked to names like Joao Gomes, Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson.
They have also been recently linked to moves for AFC Bournemouth’s lethal attacker Antoine Semenyo and Crystal Palace’s solid defender Marc Guehi.
In spite of signing Senne Lammens in the summer, goalkeeper is also a spot in the team that the club continues to be linked to trying to improve.
United have frequently been linked to holding a firm interest in FC Barcelona’s veteran keeper.
There have been reports that United have enquired for the player’s services and that the keeper is also in contact with the club.
Eldesmarque.com report that United are now set to make a January swoop for the star, who accepts his time at the Camp Nou has come to an end.
The site reports that, “Ter Stegen has accepted that he will have to leave Barça in January, with Besiktas and Manchester United having already made their offers.”
A knee problem last year and a back issue this season, have meant he has struggled for any game time and Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczęsny are very much ahead of him for a starting role.
Ter Stegen has numerous clubs interested in from the Premier League, including United. He is also now sure that when he recovers he must leave FC Barcelona, either on loan or at the end of his current deal.
Like many players, he will want to secure as many minutes as possible on the pitch before this summer’s World Cup.
German coach Julian Nagelsmann is said to trust Ter Stegen completely and only relies on him finding regular gametime if he is to be the national side’s number one keeper during the summer.
Sources at eldesmarque.com claim that they have “been told for several weeks that Manchester United is one of the teams interested in the keeper. However, they acknowledge that the offer from Besiktas is much more concrete, but everyone is waiting to see how he recovers.”
Teams are understandably nervous about his availability issues and are reportedly waiting until early January to see if he is cleared to play.
