And he says that she could get even better – suggesting that the 24-year-old could become one of the world’s very best.

The Canada international was named as player of the match in United’s UEFA Women’s Champions League 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford – among a host of stand-out displays, with goals from Melvine Malard and Fridolina Rolfo, and a second-ever first-team performance from keeper Safia Middleton-Patel.

And Skinner told the club’s official website: “Jayde has the ability to be the best in the world. Right now, it’s a moment of push for her. I’m trying to push her as a manager, I want her to reach her goals, reach her targets.

“When we identified her three or four seasons ago now we saw the quality that she had – and we knew that really she doesn’t have a ceiling.

“To see that she puts those constant performances in it is really pleasing for her, not that she needs those markers.

“But I know Jayde, and I know what she’s like, she’ll want to get better and better and better.”

“A proud moment” for Jayde Riviere

And acknowledging that playing at Old Trafford was a special occasion and “proud moment” for Riviere and her family, he added: “Now we move forward because we want to put the same effort, the same mood into every game.

“The thing I want Jayde to do now is the consistency part. If she can do that, she’ll be the very best in the world.”

Manchester United: team news for derby clash

Manchester United play Manchester City in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Saturday, 15th November, kicking off at 1.30pm.

And on Friday, Skinner updated the media on his expected team news.

Goalkeeper Phallon Tullis Joyce, who missed the Champions League match with a facial injury, was meeting with doctors in a bid to make herself available to play.

Lioness Ella Toone, who came on as a substitute in that match, is “fit and healthy” and had played only limited minutes that day in an effort to manage “a little niggle”.
