Weston McKennie has quickly won over Luciano Spalletti and has been an integral part of the formation since Juventus changed their coach. On the other hand, his contractual situation puts him in limbo, as his deal is up in June.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, there has been no progress in the extension talks after the summer. The brass was open to parting ways and welcomed offers, but the midfielder decided to stick around and didn’t push to leave.
McKennie has been making €3M annually since his last short-term renewal with Juventus and would like a slight pay bump. The Bianconeri need to increase their previous offer to keep him.
The management plans to turn down the bids that might arrive in January, but a lot will hinge on the desire of the USMNT staple. He has suitors in the Premier League and in the MLS. Some Serie A sides could track him too, if he were available.
The 27-year-old has started in the last ten matches and recently bagged his maiden goal versus Bodo/Glimt. His versatility has come in handy, as he has featured in pretty much every role in the midfield.
He’s not a world beater, but he’s a very useful and energetic player. He has the right secondary role in their current iteration, whereas it was a little too influential at times in the past. For some reason, their various officials over the years have never been willing to commit to him long-term. It wouldn’t make a lot of sense to lose pieces for zilch in a role where they already need some help if the sums at stake aren’t too high.
