Mel Reay says she is really excited about Sunderland Women’s future after US group Bay Collective agreed a deal.
According to Sunderland Echo, Bay Collective, backed by investment firm Sixth Street, have agreed to assume a majority stake, with Sunderland retaining a minority and the team continuing to operate from the Academy of Light under the club banner. The agreement still requires ratification by the league.
Reay described it as a positive step and said the future could be bright if the move goes through. She added she cannot say much more until it is official, though early conversations with key personnel have been encouraging.
She said keeping Sunderland’s identity is central to Bay Collective’s plans and that a one club mentality is at the forefront.
